Latinista Magazine got to interview Krystal Ortega, an up-and-coming music artist, about her inspirations, her music role models, and what’s next for her.
What made you want to go into the Music Industry?
“I’ve always loved music since I was in diapers. I used to listen to Madonna with my uncle and dance and sing all her songs. I wrote my first song when I was 6 years old. Music was my outlet. I was scared to express my feelings or let people get too close to me, so I would let it out on paper in a song. Whenever I was feeling down, music was the only thing to make me smile.”
What inspires you?
“My children inspire me. I’m very hard on my oldest son about not quitting, not being scared to achieve his goals, and not letting anyone get in his way. Sometimes I find myself not taking my own advice and I think to myself, “what example am I setting for them? I have to do this to show them nothing is impossible”. So they help me get over my own fears and Insecurities.”
Who are your favorite music role models?
“I love Lauryn Hill, Mary J Blige, and Alicia keys. The message in their music is just so real. They talk about real situations and then they made it a hit, that’s inspiring.”
What are your goals in Music?
“I want to make timeless music that can make people feel good and have a good time. I wanna be that outlet for others.”
What are your hobbies?
“When I’m not singing or writing music, I love to DIY at home. Painting, remodeling, and building things from scratch.”
How would you describe your Fashion Style?
“My fashion style is sexy and sporty. I like to switch it up.”
What motivates you to wake up daily?
“I love to be busy and overwhelmed with things to do. I like being under pressure because it lights a fire in me and allows me to be organized. I make lists of everything I need to do, and crossing everything off is extremely satisfying.”
After your album release, what’s next?
“Right now I am signed to Malaspalabras record label owned by Andy Vargas and George Lopez. I was just in a video with Alexis Grullon and Chris Perez for their new single “Mujer”. I’m working on releasing a single within the next month or two. New music, new name, I’m rebranding myself. This new Krystal Ortega no one has ever seen before and the best part about it is that it’s me. I have a say in everything that I’ve done so far from the music to the beat, to the video direction, to how I wear my hair and makeup. I finally have a voice and that feels so good to be able to express myself creatively. I’m really excited for what’s to come and I have a solid team behind me.”
