Latinista Magazine wanted to share all the highlights of September’s Latinista Fashion Week event at CoverGirl NYC + Times Square!

Latinista Fashion Week at CoverGirl NYC was a big hit and of course we were thrilled to see so many new faces and industry insiders.

#NYFW FINALE PRESS + VIP Party hosted by CoverGirl NYC in the heart of NYC-Times Square! DCG Media Group was excited to partner with collaborative partners such as Fashion Mingle, J.Hilburn, TrueModels, Samsung, Uptime, Fedora Lounge, and our featured designers. The event included a live fashion installation of models featuring wardrobe by artist and designer Skott Marsi and celebrity designer Cesar Galindo, mini makeovers by the CoverGirl Glam Squad, signature drinks by Spring 44, red carpet photos at the Samsung photo booth, desserts and major giveaways, plus speed networking.

“Skott Marsi’s first graffiti ‘tag’ was his own rendering of the iconic Gumby, an American clay humanoid character, created by Art Clokey. Over the years, his work has evolved. He draws inspiration from Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and graffiti artist Banksy to produce what Skott calls “controlled chaos”.

“A transformation began in 2011 when he became one of the top trending artists to work out of the Wynwood Art & Design District of Miami – a hotbed for the industry’s latest talent. Skott was asked to paint live at Art Basel Miami, which became a driving force for exposure. He made a big impression during the show and was asked to participate in a group exhibition at the Art Place Gallery. Furthermore, Skott was commissioned to customize several high-end clothing stores, office interiors and exteriors plus luxury cars for Von Asken. In a short period of time, Skott’s reputation has expanded nationally from New York to Los Angeles and internationally from Dubai to Australia. Ask Skott why he has a heart tattooed on his hand and he’ll tell you, “It’s a reminder why I am doing this. It’s dedication.” To underscore this generous spirit, Skott has donated works to the auctions of numerous charitable organizations such as High Heels and Handshakes, Butterflies No Longer Live Here, Autism Speaks, the Cornwall Center of Myers Park in North Carolina and Jackson Memorial Hospital to name a few. Skott will often invite local children of the community to help with his murals, teaching the youth as he shares his love and passion for art.”

LATINISTA Fashion Week

LATINISTA™ Fashion Week started in 2011 with IMAN Cosmetics & Latina Magazine and it is now on its 4th year. The goal was to showcase high-end designers as well as to discover new Latino/Latina designers and give them a new platform during Fashion Week. And to connect to the Hispanic millennial generation. We have grown rapidly and it is now a successful fashion platform during New York Fashion Week, not just for Hispanics but for all fashion insiders as well. Celebrity Designer Cesar Galindo who joined the runway in 2013 caught the vision and has now joined forces and collaborated with LATINISTA™ to take it to new levels. LATINISTA™ Fashion Week featured Cesar Galindo archive of his work January 2015 at the Historic El Museo Del Barrio which was sponsord by Ralph Pucci and was the first designer to do an exhibit at the museum.

This year we are featuring a Times Square LIVE Shoot to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! Join our two day event!

Sweater Weather

sweather weather

Sweater weather is one of the best times of the year!

Grab those boyfriend jeans or leather leggings and pull the look together with a cool hat and big bulky sweater and voila, the perfect fall look. Fall is the perfect weather to get those layered looks and sweaters in without the need of a jacket.

Start off your day with a classic fair isle sweater in a warm alpaca wool blend. The pattern is screaming for compliments on the streets. This brown sweater from Saks Fifth Avenue is a classic fall essential.

Nights at the fireplace, day in the park, this sweater is calling my name. Its a quick easy throw on that will be your new best friend. Forget about the old simple shirt. Layer it with a cardigan on any outfit to complete the look.

Everyone knows some of falls colors are orange, brown, and cream. This sweater comes in all three colors and it is the definition of fall, it’s a must have! Great for keeping cozy both in and out of the office.

Grab your leather pants and booties; head out for a night out with this ruffle Sandro cardigan. Simple, easy, and always making you look put together without going all fancy. It is the simple things that make the outfit!

FALL Hot Spots to Mingle and Mix

FALL Hot Spots to Mingle and Mix

In need of a quick date night or girl’s night out?

We have a few recommendations that will help you unwind after work or on the weekends. Here are just a few.

The Press Lounge
As the breezy nights hit, and the beautiful leaves are falling off the tall green trees, what can be better than a skyline view of NYC?! The Press Lounge is a classy rooftop bar with both an indoor and an outdoor area for the cooler nights of fall.

FALL Hot Spots to Mingle and Mix

The Skylark
Make sure to head down to West 39th street for a magnificent view along with some tasty food and drinks. If you ask me my favorite drink, 10 out of 10 it would be the prickly pear margarita. The sweet and tangy taste fills your mouth with a bunch of savory flavors. Head down for a great drink and a great view.

FALL Hot Spots to Mingle and Mix

The Refinery Rooftop
“Now you’re in New York, These streets will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you, Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York”. The best view you can get of the Empire State Building with a nice cocktail is all right here.

FALL Hot Spots to Mingle and Mix

Upstairs NYC Rooftop and Lounge
For the most amazing views, come on Upstairs in Midtown for a view and a drink.

FALL Hot Spots to Mingle and Mix

Zerzura is a rooftop with a heated pool all year round in the Meatpacking District. Plus a bonus to this hot spot is you are surrounded by the views of the Hudson River and the skyline of the big apple. If you have not been there yet, it is definitely a site to see.

FALL Comfort Food: Apple Cinnamon Bread

Apple Cinnamon Bread

The warm stickiness of the cinnamon apples dripping down your fingers is almost too good to be true. This dessert will become your family’s fall favorite the second you bake it. It’s simple, quick, and easy to make. To all the apple lovers … ENJOY ☺

2 Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/3 c. packed brown sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter, softened
2/3 c. granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. orange juice

Preheat oven to 350° and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper. In a large bowl, stir together chopped apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
In another large bowl using a hand mixer, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and beat until smooth. Add flour, baking powder, and orange juice and mix until just combined.
Add half batter to prepared loaf pan, then press in half the apple mixture. Top with remaining batter, then press remaining apples on top. Bake until loaf is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean, about 1 hour 5 minutes. Let cool completely.

FALL IN LOVE TRENDS: Fashion Must Haves

fall in love trends

Creatives by Fadwa Khattab

With September right around the corner, Fall styles are hitting the stores! There are a few styles that are MUST haves and that I have added to my list. . The first being “the suit”. Anything that is a suit is the talk of the runway, especially if you add a pleated midi skirt. Pleats are second up and are making a comeback. Up next is neon. Right now, bright colors are what’s lighting up the fashion runways this season. My favorite neons are hot pink mostly which you can pair up with your favorite boyfriend jeans. In addition, animal prints are still going strong. Lastly, and the most practical are pockets. While this may seem minuscule, it is definitely not. Men have pockets in every article of clothing, and women do not. That’s why we carry so many bags. The new trend is adding pockets to statement pieces, while making it stylish.

Next up-an aristocratic look with Patriot Blue, Cinder, Cayenne, and Maize. All colors that spice up any type of clothing. Along with designs that have become key staples for the fall season. Such as, chiffon belle sleeves, midi dresses, wool shorts, and different colored tights. Each of these “moods” have made up imperative styles and trends. Keep an eye out for these on the runway this Fall!
