Glass skin, anyone? The theme for 2019 seems to be enfocar en piel saludable. More people are spending their hard-earned money on skin care products over cosmetics. Makeup looks best on great skin so taking care of your skin should always be the first step in your beauty routine. Here are some tips on how to create that flawless makeup look without suffocating your piel.
Whether you have dry, oily or combination skin, you first want to prime your skin. Primer is your friend and don’t let anyone tell you different. You want to prime your eyelids, face and lips. This helps with not only the longevity of your makeup but also the way it goes on and blends. There are different formulations for primer. Make sure you have the right formulation for your skin.
The eyes are next! Next in line that is. Some people like to do their face first but here’s what you risk cuando haces eso. Fall out, and I don’t mean the band. The swiping of the brush across your lid makes little flakes of shadow land on your cheekbones. Wiping that away will only smudge it and create a black eye effect that I’m pretty sure you’re not going for. So, do yourself un favorcito and start with your eyes.
You can start with a fleshy toned shadow for all over your lid. Go a bit lighter than your actual skin tone if you like and it will brighten your eyes a bit. Use a fluffy brush for this so you don’t apply too much at once. Next, grab a shade mas oscuro for the outer corner of your eyes. We’re not going for a smoky eye per-say but we do want soft dimension. Blend, blend, blend! You can always add a bit more if you want later but make sure you blend like crazy so there are no harsh lines.
Next, we’re going to line the eyes with brown eyeliner. Este paso no es necesario, but it helps to add depth and defines the lash line. Again, we’re going for the opposite of dramatic. Dark browns funcionan mejor when creating a “natural” look. Start at the middle of your upper eyelid and make small lines to the outer corner of the eye. Go back over to the center and start creating small lines going towards the inner eye. Now you’ll want to connect the small lines you’ve created. Cuidado when doing this so you don’t create any harsh lines. Take a flat angled brush and go over the line you created to smudge it. Underneath the eye, make the same smudgy line from the middle of the lower lash line to the outer corner of the eye. Now curl your lashes and apply a coat or two of mascara.
Grab your favorite foundation and asegurate that it matches your skin exactly. Swatch it on your jaw and blend it out. When you’re done you shouldn’t see any makeup. There shouldn’t be a difference in color between your face and your neck. There is no need to apply foundation to the neck unless you have something that you want covered. If you’ve found your shade proceed with applying to your face donde lo necesitas. The key here is to apply a sheer amount to start and add more if needed. Applying foundation only where you need it will give you a natural fresh-faced finish. Too much at once leads to a masque of foundation that looks nothing like skin. Remember, a little goes a long way. Next, dust with a translucent setting powder. Now estas lista for your next step, your contour and highlight.
The highlight can be a bit tricky and if you’re not sure how to do it you can do too much, and it doesn’t look natural. Prefiero a matte highlight to enhance the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose (not the tip of the nose!), forehead and chin. You can also use a pressed powder that’s lighter than your skin for this if it’s lo que tienes disponible. Your best brush for this is a fan brush. It allows you to apply very little at a time, so you don’t go overboard.
Moving into bronzer. Dab your angled fluffy blush brush into your bronzer/contour color. Start at the hollows of your cheeks close to your hairline. Swirl your brush into your hairline as you move your way down at an angle. Can’t find your hollows? Suck your cheeks in and the part that dips in the most is the hollow. Swipe over the forehead closest to the hairline for a sun-kissed effect. Now take your brush and dip it into your favorite blush. (I use the same brush because mixing what’s left of the bronzer with the blush makes it look more natural). Apply the color to the apples of your cheeks. Sonrie so you can find them easier and swipe upwards meeting the contour beneath. Swirl to blend.
When choosing a lip color and you’re trying to stay as natural as possible, I tend to keep to pinky nudes. This spring I’m making una exception mijitas allowing for Pantone’s 2019 color of the year, living coral! It compliments any skin tone and can give a soft healthy-looking sheen.
There you have it, a few steps to create your own flawless natural look for any occasion.
