“Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.” ~ Margaret Mead.

Rockaway is a peninsula in NYC just east of Queens and Brooklyn, with approximately 80,000 residents. On one side of the peninsula is a wild ocean with sharks, whales, birds, and fish, the other side is a calmer bay with turtles and bats and other amazing wildlife. This urban coastal area is a diverse area with many challenges.

Rockaway Creates, a non-profit dedicated to “one” Rockaway vs various separate neighborhoods, was recently established to celebrate entrepreneurs, creatives, artists, and small businesses of all genders and backgrounds to collaborate and unite with monthly events to bring people together in the community.

Rockaway Creates is run by a talented executive board, Dana Humphrey as Chair, Samantha Cintron as Vice Chair, Shane Kulman as Secretary, and Galit Tzadik as Treasurer. These four women are friends and colleagues and work extremely in tandem together to make things happen. They recently launched a podcast – “Rockaway Creates Connection” to highlight events and offerings in the community.  Rockaway Creates hosts monthly hangouts on the peninsula and each month is a new theme! People of all faiths, ages, politics, genders, races, and sexual orientations are welcome to hang out.  The Rockaway Creates mission is to support locals to strengthen the Rockaway community by advocating for collaboration, and creativity that benefits Rockaway.
