This year’s Dance Parade New York will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2022. There will be over 10,000 dancers with more than one hundred styles of dance to delight, entertain, and educate spectators. The goals of Dance Parade New York are to promote cultural equity, and to educate and empower. Ballet Hispánico is ecstatic to be one of the companies bringing all of the above to the audience of Dance Parade New York.

Ballet Hispánico’s mission is to bring communities together to celebrate and explore Latino cultures through innovative dance productions, transformative dance training, and community engagement. Ballet Hispánico is encompassed by three parts – the professional dance company, the school of dance, and the Community Arts Partnerships (CAP).

The Community Arts Partnerships partners with the Department of Education to improve access to the arts for students and members of the community. CAP’s goal is to include and engage each student three times from their initial event attendance. During the pandemic, CAP committed to its mission and went virtual. Even by performing remotely, CAP still reached 190,0000 people. Since October 2021, CAP has resumed live touring and bringing dance and culture all over the US, including Virginia, Utah, California, and will be making their way to Canada soon. Not only will audience members be able to watch the performances, but CAP teachers will also be teaching classes at the dance fest so that attendees can fully immerse themselves in the experience.

“I’m so thrilled to be part of this year’s Dance Parade. An important part of our community and an essential part of our dance field. I look forward to celebrating and reigniting the power of dance and cultural representation in our city.” – Eduardo Vilaro, Artistic Director, and CEO of Ballet Hispánico at Ballet Hispánico of New York.

Ballet Hispánico will be showcasing their School of Dance, which is composed of dancers ages 2 through 23. Also featured will be the Pa’lante Scholars, LatinX and BIPOC dancers that are studying and working with seasoned choreographers to prepare for a career with a professional company. The Pa’lante Scholars is a professional studies program that trains from September to May. Information on the Pa’lante Scholars program and how to apply and audition can be found at here:

Prior to Dance NYC, the professional dance company of Ballet Hispánico will be performing at New York City Center on April 1 – 3, 2022. A brand-new, full-length ballet “Doña Perón” will make its premiere as the concluding performance of the 50th Anniversary Celebration as part of the City Center Dance Festival. This innovative ballet based on the story of Evita will be presented in the narrative of a Latina’s voice. “She’s not a fairytale character, she’s not a literary character. She’s a real woman, and for me, it’s interesting to put her on stage because she’s difficult to pinpoint,” Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, choreographer of “Doña Perón” states. “I want to give female dancers real roles, not always the nice roles. Women are complex and it’s nice to show all of these facets. I’m very grateful that I can put this woman, Evita Perón, on stage as a female choreographer.”
